FAQs

  • A Dietitian has had at least 4 years of accredited university training specifically around nutrition and diseases. Dietitians look at whole foods, micronutrients as well as blood test results and medical conditions to tailor healthy eating plans for you – we use a food first approach rather than supplements. Our recommendations are based on scientific research and we undertake 30 hours of professional development yearly to keep up to date with new research and evidence.

  • Anyone can see a dietitian if they have a need or desire to improve their diet, eating habits or meal planning; either for general healthy eating or because of a medical condition.

  • No, you do not need a GP referral to seek services from a Dietitian. However, having a GP referral will make you eligible for a Medicare rebate of $58.30 if you have Medicare and are based in Australia.

  • Yes, it is covered if you have an extras cover that includes dietetics. Please check with your private health insurance provider for the rebate applicable for each appointment.

  • An initial assessment will run for 45 minutes as a more comprehensive analysis of diet, lifestyle and medical history is required. A review session is 30 minutes as we will review your progress, troubleshoot barriers and continue working towards your goal.

  • For those wanting long-term nutritional management, discounted review packages are available. Please get in touch for further information.

  • This is subject to the complexity of the concern(s) we are working on and an individual’s health goal which may be to resolve a temporary health issue or a chronic health condition.

There is evidence to suggest that seeing a Dietitian over a longer term is more beneficial as it ensures problems are tackled sooner, you are kept accountable and it will help fast-track health goals. Often my clients choose to keep checking in as they don’t want to lose the progress they have made on their health.

  • This is dependent on how confident you are to make the changes we discuss in the appointment and if you are someone who will benefit from being kept accountable. If the changes are more challenging and you require more support then weekly or fortnightly appointments would be most beneficial, otherwise monthly appointments may suffice.

  • They are more than welcome to. It is beneficial to have a loved one present as it provides emotional support, a sense of encouragement and a shared commitment towards healthier habits. This is more likely to lead to successful changes and provides an opportunity to gain better clarity on your dietary goals and challenges as you embark on this journey.

  • If you need to cancel your appointment, please allow us 24 hours notice to organise to care for someone else in that time. A 50% cancellation fee is applicable otherwise.

  • A very common request indeed! Many people feel a meal plan is what they need – “just tell me what to eat!” May seem more simple and straightforward won’t it?

To be honest, the human brain is a lot more complex and following a strict meal plan designed by someone else will not last for anything more than 1-2 weeks and is not a practical solution either. Instead, you will receive a meal modification plan that takes into account your lifestyle, culture and food preferences. Where appropriate, I will also design a daily checklist that will allow you to tick off what you should be aiming to have in a day and give you the autonomy to decide which meal you would like to include these foods in.
